FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - The Wings of The City is a new art exhibit featuring five bronze sculptures that will be on display on the Fresno State campus now through August 2025. Organizers held a press conference to introduce the sculptures to the public and give some background on the artist and his work. "I want them to stop. I want them to see the art," said Saul Jimenez-Sandoval, President of Fresno State. "I want them to think about the art and what the meaning of the art is."  The sculptures are lined up on campus between the Conley Arts and Speech Arts Buildings.  "What I want my students to get from this is how is it that we sometimes go through our routine during the day, but do not stop to smell the roses, right? Literally and figuratively," Jimenez said.  Chris Lopez, the director of the Center for Creativity and the Arts was one of the speakers at the event.  He says the goal of the artwork is to have students take a moment to stop and talk about the pieces in an effort to create bonds.  "They're bringing world connections to our students, not only within our campus community but to our general public throughout Fresno," Lopez said.  They were created by a Mexican artist named Jorge Marin nearly 18 years ago.  "This harks back to a very ingrained tradition within Mexico that has incredible art, as you know, Orozco, Rivera, I mean, all of these incredible artists that Kahlo, of course, that have really impacted the world over," said Jimenez.  For more information on the Wings of the City Exhibit or how to schedule a tour for K-12 schools visit the Wings of the Ciy webpage.
