SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - According to the Hampden District Attorney's office, there have been at least six deadly motorcycle crashes in Hampden County this year.
This after 39-year-old Precious Garrett was arrested following a deadly motorcycle crash on Page Blvd. and Rocus St. that happened Saturday around 2:45 a.m. in Springfield.
Garrett has been charged with motor vehicle homicide and operating under the influence of alcohol.
The motorcyclist died due to his injuries.
A family member told 22News he was a beloved father of 7 who was on his way back from work that morning.
Long-time bikers are reminding drivers to be cautious and more aware on the roads.
"Look twice to save a life is the best advice I give. Complete stops I know a lot of us sometimes don't make that complete stop at the stop sign", says Daniel Rodriguez of Chicopee.
"Make eye contact with drivers. A lot of people you can really see when they're on their cellphones and driving, and when you're on a bike. You just got to try and give them as much room as possible", says Charles Payne of Chicopee.
The Springfield Police Department is reminding drivers on how to get home safely following a night out.
Plan, designate a sober drive before heading out the door, know your legal limit, and take advantage of ride-share services.
A family member of the motorcyclist who died Saturday morning says the City of Springfield should consider placing a stoplight near Page Blvd. and Rocus St.
