MECKLENBURG COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A body was recovered from a well in Mecklenburg County on Monday after those working on the well pump saw a sneaker floating in the water. At about 12:17 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 16, Mecklenburg firefighters and deputies from the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office were called to a well at 9367 State Route 903 in the Bracey area of the county. Captain Chris Whittemore told 8News that those working on the well pump saw a sneaker floating in the well, as well as what appeared to be a "large mass" inside. Upon making this discovery, they contacted authorities. First responders later recovered a body from the well. As of about 4 p.m. Monday, investigators remain at the scene. According to Whittemore, foul play has not been ruled out as of the time of reporting.
