It turned out to be a delightful weekend of weather across Central and Eastern Kentucky with plenty of sunshine and warm temperatures. The great weather carried over to Monday with lots of sunshine, a few fair weather clouds and afternoon highs back into the mid-80s. Humidity levels and dewpoints were up a touch but nothing off the charts so we enjoyed pretty  nice conditions for the late part of the summer season. It will be all about location the next few days as a system to our east could shake things up in a few spots. A tropical low that we’ve talked about since late last week was hanging off the North Carolina coast on Monday and while the potential was there for it to “officially” become a tropical system, it’s been so close to the coast and interacting with land enough to keep in sub-tropical before it moves inland. Given the upper level winds in place, the area of low pressure will actually work back to the west into the mid-week, which should bring clouds and the potential of a few scattered showers to the area on Tuesday and Wednesday. We’ll take what we can get given the overall dry conditions through the summer and this may be our best chance of rain for awhile. With clouds around on Tuesday, afternoon highs will be held in check only topping out in the upper 70s with the best rain chances in the southeast mountains. Keep in mind as the low interacts with the mountains to our east, a lot of the moisture will be squeezed out and an east wind can have drying component to it. The area of low pressure will be in the area through the mid-week but the overall chances should be a bit less on Wednesday and Thursday with again the highest chances being in the eastern mountains. Afternoon highs will be a touch higher but still pretty comfortable for mid-September topping out in the low-80s.  Overall rain totals the next few days should be marginal for our area while areas of the Carolinas and Virginia will be the big winners. Conditions look quiet and warmer late this week and into the weekend as we say goodbye to the summer season officially on Sunday morning. Before that Kentucky has it’s 4th consecutive home football game at Kroger Field, this one against Ohio University beginning at 12:45pm. It will be sunny and warm for the afternoon game with highs topping out in the mid to upper 80s so you’ll want to hydrate properly, use plenty of sunscreen and find some shade when you can. The Autumnal Equinox occurs at 8:43 AM Eastern Sunday morning but it will feel more like summer instead of early fall with more sunshine and tranquil weather as highs reach the upper 80s to close out the weekend. We may see a shower or two working back into the region by early next week. ABC 36 HOUR FORECAST MONDAY NIGHT: Clouds increase, a late shower east. Lows in the upper 50s and low-60s.
