Lopes, who is 25, was captured by state sheriffs’ deputies in Kāneʻohe at 8:15 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 16.
"Laumaka work furlough inmate Chauncey K. Lopes was returned to custody at the O’ahu Community Correctional Center (OCCC) after state sheriffs’ deputies apprehended him in Kāneʻohe at 8:15 a.m. today," a public information officer for the Hawai‘i Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
Lopes had missed his 9 p.m. curfew on Sunday, prompting a search by the State Sheriffs and the Honolulu Police Department.
He was serving time for manslaughter at Laumaka, which is a minimum-security facility where inmates work or seek employment in the community.
