The Bravo Network describes its flagship late night program “Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen” as, “Bravo’s late-night, interactive talk show that features guests from the world of entertainment, politics, and pop culture. Hosted by Andy Cohen, the series includes lively debates on everything from fashion, the latest on everyone’s favorite Bravolebrities.” Basically, the show is a platform where a bevy of real housewives come on, drink all the Chardonnay that’s not thrown, and say totally insane things that they don’t actually mean. It’s one big televised intervention for American culture. There’s yelling, and crying, and hugging, but it’s mostly about drinking. Nobody expects them to follow through with threats made, promises issued, or big reveals teased. It’s all talk, and everyone knows it. Apparently that’s now what questionnaires by political and ideological interest groups have become. At least for Kamala Harris. According to reporting from CNN, in 2019 an American Civil Liberties Union presidential questionnaire filled out by then California Senator Kamala Harris indicated that the White House aspirant supported decriminalizing federal drug possession for personal use – including hard drugs like crack and fentanyl – defunding Immigration and Custom Enforcement, and using federal funds for sex reassignment surgeries for detained illegal immigrants. Harris cites evolution in terms of how her policies seem to have changed over time; but says that she holds core beliefs that remain unshakable: “My values have not changed,” she said in an interview with CNN’s Dana Bash last month. Side note: if your values haven’t changed from when you wanted to ban fracking, decriminalize hard drugs, and provide taxpayer-funded sex reassignment surgery for prison inmates and illegal immigrants, then maybe those values should change. When I saw the report on CNN, I had to reread it several times to make sure that I wasn’t tricked and reading something from the Onion. No, it wasn’t foreign propaganda from www.cnn.com, it was from the real news organization, and she really said all that. But, as Dave Weigel, who covers politics for Semafor points out on X, “The over-arching story here is the many many demands The Groups made on Dems, only for them to take power in 2021 and not meet the demands – with no real backlash from The Groups.  ACLU isn’t out here campaigning for Jill Stein bc Harris didn’t defund ICE.” From the point of view of the ACLU, getting her to agree to the nutty things was all they were really looking for. Like Harris, President Joe Biden didn’t actually enact into law any of these demands either.  But back in 2019 the ACLU was furious with him.  Why?  He didn’t pretend like he would. In fact, Biden did not respond to the questionnaire at all. Of course, that could have been just a memory-issue thing. As a result, the ACLU ran radio ads attacking Biden for not answering. This issue is a great case study on how Kamala Harris runs shop:  Say whatever bonkers thing the Left wants you to say, and then manage their expectations. It’s amazing, as long as you’re good at parroting the right talking points, you don’t have to actually do anything. Just ask Greta Thunberg. This is not the first time we’ve seen Harris issue grand sweeping statements, and then wink at us to let us know it was just for play. During the 2020 Democratic debates Kamala implied that Joe Biden was a racist right to his face on live TV.  A few months later she became his running mate.  Same guy!  None of it means anything.  As Robert DeNiro said in Wag The Dog, “It’s a pageant.” Harris defenders think she deserves credit for not pressing ahead with nutty statements, as if that’s a good look. How about this: just say no to bad ideas? Unfortunately for the Democrats, that’s not how Kamala rolls.
