PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) -- Authorities said they found and arrested a man who pointed a rifle with a scope into former President Donald Trump's golf club on Sunday. Virginia leaders have taken to social media to respond to yet another attempt on the Republican GOP's presidential candidate. The FBI released the named of the suspect in the most recent assassination attempt on Trump. He was identified as Ryan Wesley Routh, three law enforcement officials told The Associated Press. Read what local leaders are saying about the attempt: Gov. Glenn Youngkin: "Yet another incredibly scary moment today. We’re grateful President Trump is safe, and again we’re inspired by his courage and strength." Rep. Jen Kiggans: "While I’m relieved to hear that President Trump is safe, I’m disgusted that there was another attempt on his life. Political violence has absolutely no place in our country. Thank you to our law enforcement for their quick response." Attorney General Jason Miyares: "I’m relieved President Trump is safe. Political violence is cowardly and a shameful betrayal of our American values." Rep. Abigail Spanberger: "Reports of another attempted assassination of former President Trump are deeply troubling. I’m grateful to the Secret Service & local law enforcement who apprehended the suspect and stopped a horrific scene from unfolding. Political violence can never be tolerated in America." Sen. Mark Warner: "Relieved to know that President Trump is unhurt after an assassination attempt yesterday, and that the suspect is in custody, thanks to the quick response of law enforcement. Political violence is never, ever acceptable, and should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law." Lieutenant Governor Winsome Earle-Sears: "While we do not know all the details, we do know that gunshots were fired near President Trump and that he is safe. For that we can give God thanks." Rep. Gerry Connolly: "Violence is unacceptable — always. I am grateful to hear no one was hurt today. We must do more to end the scourge of gun violence that makes all of us, from teachers to former presidents, less safe." Trump's running mate for vice president, JD Vance, also reacted to the incident. JD Vance: "I'm glad President Trump is safe. I spoke to him before the news was public and he was, amazingly, in good spirits. Still much we don't know, but I'll be hugging my kids extra tight tonight and saying a prayer of gratitude." President Joe Biden also reacted to the incident. Joe Biden: "I have been briefed by my team regarding what federal law enforcement is investigating as a possible assassination attempt of former President Trump today. A suspect is in custody, and I commend the work of the Secret Service and their law enforcement partners for their vigilance and their efforts to keep the former President and those around him safe. I am relieved that the former President is unharmed. There is an active investigation into this incident as law enforcement gathers more details about what happened. As I have said many times, there is no place for political violence or for any violence ever in our country, and I have directed my team to continue to ensure that Secret Service has every resource, capability and protective measure necessary to ensure the former President’s continued safety." Vice President Kamala Harris also released a statement about the incident. Kamala Harris: "I am deeply disturbed by the possible assassination attempt of former President Trump today. As we gather the facts, I will be clear: I condemn political violence. We all must do our part to ensure that this incident does not lead to more to violence. I am thankful that former President Trump is safe. I commend the U.S. Secret Service and law enforcement partners for their vigilance. As President Biden said, our Administration will ensure the Secret Service has every resource, capability and protective measure necessary to carry out its critical mission."
