Assorted drinks. | Bober Tea & Coffee Bober Tea & Coffee opens in the Grantville neighborhood A growing bubble tea brand with 20 outlets around the globe recently touched down in San Diego. Bober Tea & Coffee was founded in 2018 in Singapore, but its franchises are mostly in the Philippines and the U.S., including 15 in California. The branch that just opened on Mission Gorge Road in the Grantville neighborhood is just the second in Southern California. Besides the eminently Instagrammable nature of its cafes, which are decorated with lavish amounts of pink flowers and disco balls, Bober Tea is known for its daily-made brown sugar boba, which is stir-fried at the counter and added warm to its drinks. Its Signature Milk Tea features brown sugar syrup and housemade cheese cream with a brulee’d brown sugar topping but other popular beverages include the Pink Haze, which is hazelnut-flavored Vietnamese iced coffee with pink salted cream, jasmine tea infused with fresh strawberries, and a mung bean pandan latte sprinkled with edible rose petals. Customers can order ahead online or step up to a self-ordering kiosk where they can customize the level of sweetness and choose add-ins like coconut or lychee jelly, crushed Oreos, and passionfruit popping boba. Bober Tea also offers other upgrades for an extra fee, like a bear-shaped clear container called a “Bear Brick” and a mystery cup that holds a surprise Sanrio plushie in a hollow compartment at its base. Like most Bober Tea & Coffee locations, the San Diego outpost is also paired with Mochi Dough, which specializes in chewy Japanese doughnuts made with rice flour.
