The 10-hour paddle concludes at the Tom Miller Dam, the money raised by the watery trek will benefit the Flatwater Foundation. Flatwater provides therapy and mental health support to cancer patients and their families. The nonprofit said it has provided 68,000 therapy sessions to more than 400 unique recipients since it started in 2010. Jason Carrier has been participating in Dam That Cancer for ten years. He said he joined after the organization provided his family with therapy after one of his loved ones received their diagnosis. He said each year is a moment to come together as a community and support families going through similar health struggles. "A ripple goes out when there's a cancer diagnosis, and we are tasked with raising the funds to provide the mental health therapy. It's something that anybody can get behind," Carrier said.
