CLOVIS, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - The California Health and Sciences University in Clovis is now fully accredited for its medical school, masters degree program, and its simulation center. The campus off of Clovis and Polasky now joins the few local options for students to receive their medical degree. Doctor John Graneto with the school says it has been a long process but it is worth it to help students achieve their dreams. “We had to jump through many hoops and milestones along the way it accreditation is a long process it takes about five years we started six years ago when we built the building, started the program,” said Graneto. While receiving the accreditation the college celebrated a major milestone in May with their graduation of its first class of doctors. “In the accreditation process the second to the last step allows you to begin to operate as if you are going to get accredited we were under that status for the last four years students were able to take classes enroll graduate,” Graneto continued. For students like third-year medical student Cathy Tran the news is reassurance that their hard work will pay off. “I think it's really promising as a school cause when were interviewing new people or telling people about the school we can say hey were fully accredited," said Tran. Politicians like Assembly Member Jim Patterson say the school is essential to addressing the shortage of healthcare providers in the valley. “Congratulations look what you have done look what you have achieved together and we need what you have achieved more than ever,” said Patterson.
