The 2024 Emmys telecast is back for round two. The annual award show that celebrates television and streaming shows returned to Los Angeles on Sunday, Sept. 15 at the Peacock Theater. If you’re thinking to yourself, “Wait, didn’t we already do that this year?” you’d be right! The 75th annual Emmys was originally scheduled for 2023 was delayed to Jan. 15, 2024, because of the ongoing strikes in Hollywood. See the winners at the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards Here are the top moments from the 76th Primetime Emmys that viewers were talking about online. Is it too early to pitch 2025 Oscars hosts? Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez, who star in Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building,” presented the first award of the night. Not only did the bit draw laughs from the audience, but it got many suggesting the trio host the Oscars together. I need Selena Gomez, Steve Martin and Martin Short to host the Oscar’s next year like this kind of chemistry is almost never seen anymore pic.twitter.com/xZI9HL9BQq — mazzy (@mazzypopstar) September 16, 2024 i have a parasocial relationship with him like i feel like he’s apart of my family fr https://t.co/hYD1vKwddp — a (@escapefromseI) September 15, 2024 Selena Gomez shouting out her bestie Taylor Swift We love you TAYLENA pic.twitter.com/1Qp3A5hjWh — ashley (@the13manuscript) September 16, 2024 I love that you can hear Martin Short say ‘I got you baby’ to Selena Gomez as they’re walking out on stage at the Emmys pic.twitter.com/xkeOxsEY3m — Mara Webster (@Mara_Webster) September 16, 2024 Please host the Oscars pic.twitter.com/sbn4nKp9uj — Matt Neglia @NYFF (@NextBestPicture) September 16, 2024 this chemistry! the jokes! their timing! again…Steven Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez need to be hosting the Oscars#Emmys pic.twitter.com/Rm7rD0WVEY — Spencer Althouse (@SpencerAlthouse) September 16, 2024 If a show makes you laugh, does it count as a comedy?“The Bear” became the most nominated comedy in Emmy history this year, but many viewers felt the show doesn’t fit the category and should be classified as a drama instead. All those actors and actual comedies deserve better. — IAMNJERA (@IAMNJERA) September 16, 2024 When Veep won everything (and deservedly so) I know it annoyed people but it was a full blown comedy. THE BEAR IS NOT A COMEDY pic.twitter.com/v7R97qnaUP — Becca (@ImWatchingBravo) September 16, 2024 Look, this isn't a fair thing to keep asking the actors. But it 100% matters. Writing jokes and punchlines is a very different thing than finding humor in a dramatic story. Comedy writers work damn hard at it, and the academy needs to fix the categories once and for all. https://t.co/kfCuACIk4x — Niceole Levy (@niceolecookies) September 16, 2024 John Oliver thanks his dog The host of “Last Week Tonight With John Oliver” was in the middle of his speech for winning outstanding scripted variety series when he began to thank his family’s dog that had recently passed away and began to be played off the stage. The comedian called out the moment and was able to finish his speech. So this was something. John Oliver wins an Emmy. He starts to thank his dog, who recently died, and they start playing him off stage, which he did not appreciate. pic.twitter.com/j86dAMj8N2 — Jimmy Traina (@JimmyTraina) September 16, 2024 https://twitter.com/reshingbull/status/1835485832066597293 Where is everyone? About 45 minutes into the show, viewers began noticing that the Peacock Theater seemed a little more empty than they were used to seeing. Notably, the center area of the auditorium seemed to be half-empty. https://twitter.com/RoccoSupreme/status/1835495142205067710 https://twitter.com/meganlela/status/1835497454856274394 https://twitter.com/DPD_/status/1835495262682280148 Lamorne Morris wins his first Emmy Award The actor won outstanding supporting actor in a limited or anthology series or movie for his role in “Fargo.” During Morris’ speech, he hilariously called out his four-year-old daughter for not believing he’d win. While this might have seemed random to some, Morris had previously shared a clip on social media showing when he found out he had been nominated for the category and his daughter proceeded to make fun of him for crying over the exciting news. https://twitter.com/LamorneMorris/status/1824157947385307190 https://twitter.com/oocsitcoms/status/1835492513530236946 https://twitter.com/ezwrites/status/1835493810232590601 https://twitter.com/AyoCarl/status/1835544750381822387 People love ‘Traitors’ The Peacock Original Series was nominated for its second season for outstanding reality competition program. The reality TV competition gained attention last summer after clips of the show started gaining attention on TikTok. The series felt like for many reality TV junkies as it brought together stars from both competition shows like “Big Brother,” “The Challenge” and “Survivor,” as well as Bravo shows like “The Real Housewives of Orange County,” “Married to Medicine” and “Shahs of Sunset.” https://twitter.com/chrissgardner/status/1835483660918865929 https://twitter.com/zachwurt/status/1835485359599415381 https://twitter.com/glaad/status/1835485226325155990 Reunited and it feels so good The 75th Emmy Awards in January brought together many cast reunions to celebrate the biggest night in television. It was a hit among viewers so it wasn’t surprising to see some cast reunions return to the annual award show. Prior to the show, it was announced that the cast of “The West Wing” would be taking the stage together to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the series. https://twitter.com/twwgifs/status/1835476372451459392 https://twitter.com/sinistercherubs/status/1835514467364249876 https://twitter.com/amandalinney/status/1835514510867673130 https://twitter.com/ayd_svu/status/1835496574241104027 Reba McEntire and Melissa Peterman from the show “Reba” were reunited on stage as presenters. But this isn’t the first time the friends have teamed up together since the series concluded in 2007. The McEntire guest starred on the Freeform sitcom “Baby Daddy” which Peterman starred on from 2012-2017. https://twitter.com/Tom_Smyth_/status/1835484594570731765 https://twitter.com/AwkwardPancake/status/1835465141560783121 It wasn’t too surprising that the cast of “Schitt’s Creek” also came together again since two of them were hosting the award ceremony. Annie Murphy joined the Levy’s to introduce Catherine O’Hara together who was one of the final presenters of the evening. https://twitter.com/MessyMindofMe/status/1835515688691056692 https://twitter.com/knopesgirl/status/1835488143518416929 https://twitter.com/AmandaNicole047/status/1835516114962432264 https://twitter.com/CiCi6275/status/1835516016589242763 John Leguizamo shouts out trailblazers in the entertainment industry The actor took to the stage to celebrate the diversity of this year’s nominees. Viewers at home appreciated that Leguizamo was able to figuratively give so many people their flowers for leading the way. https://twitter.com/netflix/status/1835499637991727556 https://twitter.com/decider/status/1835500116490195419 https://twitter.com/americanreqiuem/status/1835534564069884300 https://twitter.com/americanreqiuem/status/1835503473871229308 https://twitter.com/smgiscoming/status/1835501986243858496 Speeches given in native languages Actors Diego Luna and Gael García Bernal took to the stage to present their category in Spanish, “Greetings to the Spanish speakers in this room and to the more than 50 million Spanish speakers in this country.” Additionally, “Shōgun” star Hiroyuki Sanada delivered part of the series’ acceptance speech in Japanese. https://twitter.com/EmmanuellePaez/status/1835492242498211950 https://twitter.com/3ddiebb/status/1835537526809096597 https://twitter.com/a_i_b612/status/1835516900258062610   Big Wins Many of the awards for the evening seemed to go to the same shows: “Shōgun,” “Hacks,” “The Bear” and “Baby Reindeer.” “Shōgun” which was nominated for its first season, won four awards throughout the evening: drama series, lead actor in a drama series to Hiroyuki Sanada, lead actress in a drama series to Anna Sawai and Directing for a drama series to Frederick E.O. Toye. “Hacks” won three awards, “The Bear” won four awards and “Baby Reindeer” won four awards. https://twitter.com/girlsonfillm/status/1835483849037398515 https://twitter.com/carmygf/status/1835475169093042662 https://twitter.com/netflix/status/1835496723416047731 https://twitter.com/willganss/status/1835483985293586604 Related Articles TV and Streaming | Emmys 2024: ‘Shogun,’ ‘Hacks’ and ‘Baby Reindeer’ are big winners TV and Streaming | Emmys 2024: Jelly Roll provides soundtrack for In Memoriam segment TV and Streaming | Emmys 2024: ‘Baby Reindeer’ wins best limited series, best actor for Richard Gadd TV and Streaming | ‘Baby Reindeer’ wins Emmys in the limited or anthology series categories TV and Streaming | Emmy winner John Oliver thanks his dearly departed dog
