PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WPRI) — It's been almost two years since the Pawtucket-Central Falls Transit Center officially opened and now the next phase of the project is starting to take shape.
At 10 a.m. Monday, Sen. Jack Reed and other officials will break ground on a new passenger facility that will give riders more amenities when traveling.

It includes an interior waiting room, device charging stations, real-time passenger information screens, a Pawtucket sub-police station and a security office.
Riders will have better access to customer service and the employees of RIPTA will also get a break room.
When the station opened in January 2023, RIDOT Director Peter Alviti said the demand in ridership serged. It has recorded more than 97,000 passenger trips from its opening day through the end of December 2023.
Earlier this year, a spokesperson for RIDOT said the passenger facility is expected to open in late 2025 or early 2026.
