Summer is going out with a bang. We are in the last week of the season. Autumn begins this coming Sunday, September 22nd, at 8:44 A.M. EST. Temperatures will be well-above average all week long. Sunshine will dominate, leaving for little rain chances in the forecast. Our average high temperature for today's date is 78° in Indianapolis. This afternoon, temperatures will climb to the upper 80s, some could hit 90°. We need the rain as 92% of the state is under 'abnormally dry' to drought conditions. Burn bans are being issued in central Indiana with the most recent being issued in Clay county. More may be added as we go through this week because, unfortunately, there isn't much rain in the forecast. Our next chance of rain, albeit a minor chance, comes with what is now Potential Tropical Cyclone Eight that is just off the Carolinas coastline. This is forecast to become Tropical Storm Helene later on today. This system will weaken again as it moves inland but the remnants of this system could bring us a few spotty showers on Wednesday. These would most favored in the eastern side of the state. That's it! That's currently our only rain chance for this week. After a slight dip in temperatures mid-week, that will still be above average, we warm back to the upper 80s Thursday through the weekend. There are no major signs of a cool down coming our way in the near future. The 8-14 day outlook is actually in favor of above average temperatures nationwide for the last week of September.
