Good morning! It is a mild morning throughout the state with temperatures in the lower 60s near downtown Indianapolis. However, outlying locations have dipped down into the lower to mid-50s. A light jacket may be needed at the bus stop this morning but will not be needed after school as temperatures reach into the upper 80s! We are closely watching a tropical disturbance that has formed off the East Coast near the Carolinas. The storm has a chance to strengthen to tropical storm status and become a named storm. If it reaches that criterion, it would be named, “Helene.” Regardless, the system is expected to slowly track into a northerly direction over the next few days. If it gets close enough to the Hoosier State, it will bring additional cloud cover to the area and a weak shower chance Wednesday. Unfortunately, the next real chance for rainfall holds off until early next week based on current model guidance. The extended dry spell in central Indiana will likely result in worsening drought conditions. The rain total in Indy is already running more than 1.50” below average to-date for the month of September.
