“Baby Reindeer,” the British limited series about a struggling actor and his stalker, picked up awards as the limited or anthology or TV movie category unfolded at the 76th annual Emmy Awards on Sunday. Richard Gadd, who wrote and starred in the series based on his own life, won the Emmy for best writing in the category and arrived on stage wearing a formal plaid kilt. “Look, 10 years ago I was down and out, right?” he said as he referenced the real-life inspiration behind his story. “I never thought I’d be able to get my life together. I never thought I’d be able to rectify what happened to me. And here I am picking up one of the biggest awards in television.” Gadd noted he wasn’t saying that to boast but to inspire. “No matter how bad it gets, it always gets better,” Gadd said. “And if you are struggling, keep going.” Jessica Gunning won outstanding supporting actress in a limited or anthology series for her portrayal of Gadd’s stalker in “Baby Reindeer.” “I honestly feel like I’m going to wake up any minute, and this whole thing is going to have been a dream,” Gunning said as she accepted the award. “I’ve tried so many times to put into words what working on ‘Baby Reindeer’ has meant to me, and failed. “So I’m going to sing,” she added, then laughed as the crowd reacted to her joke. LaMorne Morris won outstanding supporting actor in a limited or anthology series or TV movie for his performance in “Fargo.” He thanked his mother, his daughter, and his fellow nominees, including a special note for Robert Downey Jr., nominated for “The Sympathizer.” “I’ve got a poster of you at my house,” Morris told Downey. “Please sign it.
