WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) -- Family and friends of an 18-year-old Cumberland man who died during a car crash in Connecticut Friday honored his life with a vigil in Warwick on Sunday. BACKGROUND: Conn. police investigating deadly crash involving RI teen Timothy Campbell's family and co-workers told 12 News at the gathering at Oakland Beach that he truly made an impact in his community. "Great soul, great heart, he's touched so many people in so many different ways," Desiree Campbell, Timothy's step mom, said. His girlfriend and her family gave an emotional speech. The girlfriend's father also used the moment to give a reminder to those in attendance about wearing a seatbelt. "All you have to do is look to the sky to talk to him, he's not gone as long as you remember him," the girlfriend's dad said. "So by remembering him, I'm asking you to please put your seatbelts on." Timothy Campbell was recently hired by West Bay Collaborative, where he was a student, as a teacher's assistant. "The words cannot tell you what the void is right now," Mary Struble, West Bay Collaborative's executive director said. "One of the young people came up to us and said the pain is too hard. It's too hard to endure, it's like being in a nightmare." An investigation into the crash by Connecticut State Police is underway. West Bay Collaborative has also organized a GoFundMe to fundraise money for the funeral expenses. So far, over $6,000 has been raised. NEXT: Mass.
