Martin Day joked that when he was a youngster, all combat sport gyms had the word "Dragon" in it. A couple of decades later, Day has now opened a gym of his own. All the latest sports news from Hawaii's sports station Prime Martial Arts, a gym in Kailua specializing in taekwondo and kickboxing for all ages, had a special opening ceremony and blessing on Sunday. In addition to sporting techniques, students will also be taught life skills such as how to treat others with respect and humility. On Sunday, Day gave an emotional speech in which he thanked his biggest influences, which included his late boxing coach Kenny “Buster” Hagelgansz, as well as his nephew, Sean, who excelled in many facets of his life before passing away after a battle with cancer. Day, a five-year UFC veteran, most recently fought for the organization in 2022. While Day, 35, says his mixed martial arts career will take a backseat to working with the next generation at Prime Martial Arts, he says he plans to compete in kickboxing again in the near future.
