LONGMEADOW, Mass. (WWLP) - The Longmeadow Pride Alliance showed the community that pride doesn't end when June is over. Sunday marked the Alliance's fourth pride celebration on the town green. The celebration included nearly 90 booths of vendors, community organizations, schools groups, and a line up of performers including DJ Brian Nicks and Lady Nikki, all showing their rainbow flags and smiling faces. The Alliance started this event four years ago because they felt the Connecticut River Valley, and particularly Longmeadow, lacked pride events. Since then, organizers expressing how valuable it is to see the festival grow and continue to celebrate pride into September. Elizabeth Morgan, the Vice President of the Longmeadow Pride Alliance told 22News, "We see returners and new people who are here every year, folks who are from the community, from before, who grew up in Longmeadow, and are coming back to be a part of it, so it's always fun. It's always great to have people here, and it's great to get bigger every year as well." Also in attendance were State Representative Brian Ashe and State Senator Jake Oliveira to present the Longmeadow Pride Alliance with a $10,000 grant from the state which will help keep the festival growing for future years.
