BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- A Bakersfield man has pleaded no contest to having sex with a 14-year-old Chico girl, according to Butte County Superior Court records. Jayson David Webster on Tuesday pleaded no contest to charges including sex with a minor, assault with force likely to produce great bodily injury and dissuading a witness from prosecuting a crime, records show. According to prosecutors, Webster, 27 at the time, drove to Chico on a night in April and picked the girl up from a friend’s house. He took her to a motel where the girl said they had sex and Webster choked her. Webster later left her at a store in Butte Meadows, prosecutors said. The girl’s mother initially reported her as a runaway before tracking her down through social media and cellphone location data. Chico police discovered Webster and the girl had been communicating online for weeks, according to prosecutors. Webster bailed out following his initial arrest on April 27 but was taken back into custody after calling the girl to try to convince her to keep quiet, prosecutors said.
