The Saints’ powerhouse third inning helped them beat the Columbus Clippers 7-4 in Ohio on Tuesday, bringing down the team at the top of the International standings with just twelve games left in the season. In the third inning, the Saints got six of their seven runs for the game, earning a 6-2 lead the Clippers would never overcome. Diego Castillo’s eighth homer of the season started things off, then the Saints piled on with a single from Chris Williams, a forceout from Jeferson Morales, a double from Rylan Bannon and a double from Anthony Prato. In the fourth, Carson McCusker singled to score Yunior Severino, ending the Saints’ scoring at 7, but that was plenty to keep the Clippers down. Brent Headrick had his second start back from a forearm strain for the Saints, allowing just one two-run homer to the Clippers in the second inning. Randy Dobnak (12-6) pitched the last five innings, and this win was his twelfth this season, bringing him into a tie for the seventh most wins in the minor leagues.Related Articles Sports | Saints pull away late to beat Iowa Cubs and take series Sports | Prato plays hero for Saints again in walk-off Sports | Brent Headrick, Randy Dobnak combine for pitching gem in Saints’ win over Iowa Sports | Byron Buxton, Emmanuel Rodriguez arrive to give Saints a boost Sports | Saints come back to beat Omaha, take four out of six in series
