EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) - The Emergence Health Network (EHN) is raising awareness about the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline as part of the National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month held in September. “EHN is one of the many organizations around the country raising awareness about the importance of seeking help and prioritizing mental health as part of 988 Day and Suicide Prevention Month,” said Noreen Jaramillo, EHN director of communications. EHN provides 24-hour behavioral crisis services through its crisis helpline (915) 779-1800, and through 988, the national three-digit crisis and suicide hotline, according to EHN is a news release. “EHN’s crisis call takers are trained mental health professionals, who work around the clock as lifelines to the many people who need support in our community,” said Rene Hurtado, EHN chief of staff. “These EHN employees are saving lives and it’s important that we recognize the important work they do. We also want to take time to make sure our residents know about this resource. Even if an individual needs guidance on how to help a loved one or a friend, we are here to assist.” “When you call 988, you’re getting a trained crisis counselor who provides emotional distress care, about anything from a mental health or substance use issue, to dealing with thoughts of suicide or another crisis. You don’t have to share who or where you are, you don’t have to disclose any personal information in order to receive help. No judgment, just help,” Laura Kost, EHN crisis helpline operator.
