Redlands Art Association’s Redlands Cinema Classic foreign film series, in its 25th year, will offer two films plus screenings of the Manhattan Short Film Festival on its fall series, screened at Look Cinemas in Redlands. The series begins with “Kidnapped,” a film in Italian with English subtitles, to be screened 7 p.m. Sept. 11 and 3 p.m. Sept. 12. The film, directed by Marco Bellocchio, is set in Bologna, Italy, in 1858. It is based on the story of a 7-year-old Jewish boy who was taken from his family because the family’s Catholic maid reported that she had baptized the boy and therefore he must be raised as Catholic. The second film in the series is “Merchant Ivory,” a documentary produced and directed by Stephen Soucy in collaboration with director and screenwriter James Ivory, to be screened 7 p.m. Sept. 25 and 3 p.m. Sept. 26. The film is a tribute to the partnership of Ivory and Ismail Merchant, who produced movies including “A Room With a View,” “Howard’s End” and “Remains of the Day.” The fall series will conclude with two screenings of the Manhattan Short Film Festival, at 6 p.m. Oct. 2 and 2 p.m. Oct. 3. The festival features 10 short films from countries around the world, and each qualifies to enter the 2025 Academy Awards, according to a news release. Those attending the screenings in Redlands will join people in more than 500 cities viewing the films and voting for the finalists. Tickets for the Manhattan Short Film Festival are $50 and include food and beverages. They must be purchased by Sept. 27 at redlandscinemaclassic.com or at the Redlands Art Association, 215 E. State St., Redlands. Tickets for the other films are $15 for adults and $10 for students with ID, available at redlandscinemaclassic.com and at the door at Look Cinemas, 340 N. Eureka St., Redlands. Proceeds from tickets for the film festival screenings benefit the Redlands Art Association’s Margaret Clark Art Education Enrichment Fund, which provides funds for art education programs throughout Redlands and for the Redlands Art Association’s Youth Art Expo, part of the Redlands Festival of Arts.
