The cold front that brought scattered rain and storms to the area is now approaching the east coast. This cold front, along with the aid of a high pressure to our west, will feed in much cooler air from Canada. Temperatures this morning have dipped in the mid-to-upper 40s. Have that light jacket handy! Temperatures get into the lower 50s by 9 AM. We'll see some clouds blow off of Lake Michigan due to northwesterly winds. However, we will see plenty of sunshine today. A great day to enjoy some college football! High temperatures today are reached in the afternoon, where they only climb into the mid-60s for most. Our average high temperature this time of year is 79°, so our high temperature for today will be quite the cool anomaly. Saturday's high temperatures will be more than 10° below average. The Canadian air is using only two of its vacation days, meaning it won't stick around for very long. The area of high pressure that will give us this cooler weekend air moves eastward next week, sending in SW winds behind it. We will see high heat return to the region. Humidity, however, is not going to increase to very high levels. It may be September, be we still have some hot days coming our way. High temps return to the 80s Monday, reaching the upper 80s by Wednesday. We look to hit the 90s on Thursday and Friday. Next week is filled with sunshine and little rain. The drought map shows an expansion of drought conditions this week and, with a sunny/dry forecast next week, our drought area is likely to continue to expand. We'll have a drought map update on Thursday. The area of moderate drought expanded this week.Last week, the driest part of the region was south of Fort Wayne. Saturday: Sunny and much cooler.
