VALLEJO, Calif. (KRON) -- The Vallejo Police Department is investigating the death of a woman who was found shot after she was extricated from her car as a homicide.
Judge blasts Oakland PD for ‘ongoing failure to police itself’: order
Police received reports of a car collision with reports of gunshots heard near the intersection of Tennessee Street and Mare Island Way just past midnight Friday.
Arriving officers found a severely damaged 2005 white Honda Accord involved in a single-vehicle collision near the intersection.
Police said they also found the driver, a woman, suffering from "at least" one gunshot wound.
VPD said the Vallejo Fire Department then conducted an "emergency extrication" of the woman from her car due to the "extensive damage" the Honda sustained.
"Despite these efforts, the female victim was pronounced deceased at the scene," VPD said.
Vallejo police's homicide detectives then responded and took over the investigation. They are still unclear about the motives behind the shooting. The woman's identity was not released.
Anyone with information on the woman's death is asked to contact VPD.
