SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Festival season has arrived in western Massachusetts, with the 51st annual Mattoon Street Arts Festival kicking off on Saturday. Volunteers started cleaning up Springfield's first historic district today to prepare for the two-day event. It's considered the longest-running arts festival in the Pioneer Valley, and admission is free. More than 90 different vendors will set up along the street aligned with Victorian-style homes. Vice President of the Mattoon St. Historical Preservation Association Jason Alves told 22News, "We make sure everything is handmade so its unique and you can't get it anywhere else." Organizers say to look out for the Tin Man who makes a special appearance every year. The festival kicks off at 10 AM. Free parking is located at the TD Bank lot on Dwight Street and Harrison Avenue.
