NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Officials with the City of New Orleans, including Mayor LaToya Cantrell, announced on Friday that free public transit passes are now available for Orleans Parish youth. Cheaper parking for some workers could be coming to New Orleans The Opportunity Pass Program, which RIDE New Orleans had initially announced in July, is the result of a collaborative effort from several city leaders and organizations. It was launched on Sept. 3 as part of the Cantrell Administration's "Meeting People Where They Are" initiative, and allows residents ages 16 to 24 to obtain passes for free access to all Regional Transit Authority buses, streetcars and ferries for 1 year. "We want to ensure that our young people, our families, our parents, all those who support the youth in our city know to take advantage of this program," said Mayor LaToya Cantrell. "We are meeting our young people where they are, by doing that we are improving the overall life of our youth and our city." Availability for the program is limited, and passes will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information, people are asked to email [email protected].
