Lincoln Southeast's Cash Buettenback (left) attempts to run the football against the LIncoln Southwest defense on Friday night at Seacrest Field. (Jeff Motz/KFOR Sports)LINCOLN–(KFOR Sept. 6)–A pair of touchdowns from Cash Buettenback in the first half set the tone for the Class A No. 9 Lincoln Southeast football team. The Knights also relied on their defense in securing a 22-6 victory over Lincoln Southwest on Friday night at Seacrest Field in a game heard on KFOR. It’s the sixth win for Southeast (2-0) in the past seven seasons of the series with the Silver Hawks. The last time Southeast lost to Southwest was in 2022, which the Silver Hawks won 17-14 in overtime. The Knights defense capitalized in the first quarter, when Pierre Allen, Jr. intercepted a Brockston Teply pass to set up Southeast’s next drive.  Quarterback Tre Bollen found Caden Ward on a 43-yard pass to the Southwest 1-yard line, which set up Buettenback’s scoring run for a 7-0 Southeast lead with 6:19 left in the opening quarter. Another turnover from Southwest in the second quarter set up a 49-yard drive for Southeast, which ended with a 4-yard touchdown run from Buettenback with just under eight minutes left in the first half.  The PAT failed and the Knights led 13-0. Southwest (1-1) utilized their passing attack to move the ball down field into Southeast territory, but needing points on the board with 1:10 left before halftime, Ethan Sanchez settled for a 42-yard field goal with the Silver Hawks trailing 13-3.  Sanchez later in the game nailed a 24-yard field goal. Southeast marched down field and got into a first-and-goal situation at the Southwest seven-yard line.  Buettenback carried the football to the Silver Hawk one-yard line, where he fumbled.  But Southeast avenged that by forcing a safety on Teply in the end zone to go up 15-6. There was a 20-minute delay in the game when Southwest defensive back Malcolm Montgomery went down with an injury that resulted in him leaving the game by ambulance. The lone touchdown pass of the night came in the fourth quarter, when Bollen found Mason Mehta on a 14-yard toss to extend Southeast’s lead to 22-6. The Knights head to Omaha to play Creighton Prep next Friday night.  Southwest hosts Papillion-LaVista next Friday, which you can hear on KFOR beginning at 6:50pm.
