• The Chardon football train continued to roll Sept. 6 in a 28-7 win at Avon Lake. Drayton Allgood and Caleb Hewitt took care of the scoring for the Hilltoppers, who improved to 3-0 on the season. Hewitt scored a 34-yard TD, and Allgood scored a 20-yard TD. • South earned its first win of the season with a 28-7 victory over visiting Brush. The Rebels (1-2) built a 21-0 halftime lead behind the running of Jayden Hardy, who had 163 yards on 22 carries and two TDs. QB Luke Jensen threw two TDs, one to Marquez Lashley for 97 yards and the other to Mason Matriano for 30 yards. • Madison went on the road and earned an 18-0 victory at North. The Blue Streaks rushed 176 yards to churn out the win while the defense did the rest. The Rangers were limited to just 50 yards of offense. Running back Dominic Lawrence scored two TDs for Madison. • Special teams played a huge role in Kenston’s 37-14 win over crosstown rival Chagrin Falls. Tymir Cardona opened the scoring for the Bombers with an 86-yard kickoff return for a TD then later scored on a 42-yard punt return. Cardona (four receptions, 86 yards) also caught a 33-yard touchdown and rushed for an 8-yard TD. Cohen Clark was Kenston’s leading rusher with 97 yards on 15 attempts. • Orange rushed for 301 yards and defeated host Wickliffe, 37-23. The Blue Devils kept pace 292 rushing yards, but the Lions’ Russell Tye’s 247 yards and two TDs were too much. Wickliffe’s Nunzio Zivnoska rushed for 106 yards and Ralph Jackson added 62 yards and two TDs. • Riverside lost a close road game for the second straight week, this time in Pennsylvania, as the Beavers fell at Cathedral Prep, 16-14. Erie Prep’s Cam Christman’s field goal was the eventual game-winner. • Mayfield was eyeing a 3-0 start but host Nordonia built a big lead at halftime and posted a 35-7 victory. • West Geauga was limited to 67 yards on offense in a 37-0 loss to visiting Aurora.
