SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WPRI) — Several House Democrats visiting Rhode Island on Friday to discuss offshore wind shared their thoughts on the 2024 presidential race. New York Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez told 12 News she was pleased to endorse Vice President Kamala Harris for the presidency. READ MORE: RI, Mass. Democrats endorse Harris for president ahead of historic convention "I was proud to support President Biden, equally proud to support Vice President Kamala Harris and I'm very excited for us to unify and move forward," Ocasio-Cortez said. A recent New York Times/Siena poll of likely voters showed former President Donald Trump had a one-point lead over Harris. "Her approval rating had a big bounce," Magaziner said. "Favorability looked good, so real improvement and a real possibility for more." Ocasio-Cortez shared a similar sentiment, saying the support for Harris "is encouraging and it's wonderful." "Polls do not vote," she added. "People vote." The representatives spoke with 12 News during a visit to the University of Rhode Island organized by Magaziner. Lawmakers attended a panel where they learned about how offshore wind has been utilized in the Ocean State and how the renewable energy source might be used in their home states.
