NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY)-- Norfolk Fire-Rescue responded to a fire early Friday morning. Crews were called to the 900 block of Lena Street at 4:19 a.m. for the report a residential structure fire. When crews arrived on scene, they found smoke and flames coming from the front door in the first unit of a 4-unit ranch style apartment building. Officials say there was a large volume of smoke visible from the street. Additional units were called due to concerns of the fire spreading in the common attic space. There was smoke and water damage to additional units. The fire was marked under control at 4:48 a.m. One civilian was treated on scene for smoke inhalation but refused to be transported to the hospital. Five people were displaced, and the Red Cross has been called to assist. No firefighters were injured, and the cause of the fire is unknown.
