Clovis Freedom Fest continues despite extreme heat

FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - For over 40 years, people have been going to the annual Freedom Fest event to celebrate Independence Day.
The heat isn’t stopping the Fourth of July celebrations.
Eddie Deleon with the Clovis Kiwanis Club says the Freedom Fest firework show is one of the largest patriotic events in the Clovis community.
“It's just a day of fun. You will literally see your neighbors. You'll see the people that work at your grocery store, the people that work at your drugstore, will be here with their families,” Deleon said.
Fireworks, food vendors, and much more were at the event.
“Vendors will open by 5:30 p.m. Music starts about then and it's just a program of fun. People bring their blankets, their ice chest,” DeLeon said.
The event is hosted by the Clovis Kiwanis Club. There’s a $5 entry fee that goes right back into the community.
“We just spent almost $30,000 in scholarships out. We spend another $10,000 for bikes for kids,” said DeLeon.
The Clovis Fire Department along with the Clovis Police Department were on site in case of an emergency.
For the fireworks show, attendees only need to bring a lawn chair and blankets, sit back and enjoy the show.
“They always bring you there when they get the finale going and stuff. It really is. It's a great feeling and makes you proud of America,” Wilson said.
