Visiting Dayton scored all of its runs in the ninth and 10th innings, then held off a Captains’ rally in the bottom of the 10th to win, 6-5, on July 4 at Classic Park.
Lake County (47-31) took a 3-0 lead in the eighth inning on an RBI double by Jose Devers and a two-run home run by Maick Collado.
The Dragons answered with three runs in the top of the ninth to tie the game at 3-3, then three more in the top of the 10th to take a three-run lead.
Cooper Ingle hit a two-run home run with two out in the bottom of the 10th to pull the Captains within one run, but the Dragons got the next batter, Devers, to strike out to end the game.
Ingle had three of the Captains’ eight hits. The Captains struck out 16 times and were 3-for-13 with runners in scoring position.
Captains starter Carter Spivey pitched eight shutout innings. He struck out seven and walked one.
