NEWPORT, R.I. (WLNE) — The Preservation Society of Newport County said that a herd of life-sized elephant sculptures will be on display around the city to raise money for worldwide conservation efforts. The sculptures are part of the Great Elephant Migration, an outdoor art exhibition created by The Coexistence Collective, a community of 200 indigenous artisans in the Nilgiri Hills of South India. Elephants can be found at the Breakers mansion, Rough Point Museum, Salve Regina University’s McAuley Hall, and the Great Friends Meeting House. Newport is the first American stop for the exhibit. The sculptures will be on display through September, and are all available for purchase to fund conservation projects. More information on the exhibit can be found here.
