KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Missouri State Highway Patrol has identified the two people killed in a multi-vehicle crash involving a school bus in Clay County. The crash was reported just after 3 p.m. Wednesday in the area of 92 Highway and A Highway, between Kearney and Smithville. Woman shot to death in QuikTrip parking lot in Kansas City MSHP reports the crash happened as the driver of a 2012 Ford Fusion was stopped on westbound 92 Highway and was preparing to make a turn and was struck by a 2014 Toyota Scion that then crossed into oncoming traffic and struck the side of a school bus that was traveling eastbound. The Scion then spun around and struck a 2023 Ford Explorer. A passenger in the Scion was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. She has been identified as 35-year-old Iris Vallares Barahona, of Kansas City, Missouri. Another passenger in the Scion was taken to Liberty Hospital where she later died from her injuries. She has been identified as Griselda Rodriguez Apolinar, also of Kansas City, Missouri. The driver of the Scion was taken to Liberty Hospital with serious injuries. There were 17 students and four adults on the school bus with two students taken to the hospital for minor injuries. Other students were taken to Kearney to be reunited with families. The students are with the Gallatin School District and were heading home from Kansas City International Airport after a conference in Florida. Kansas City Fire Department makes several water rescues amid flash floods The Gallatin School District released a statement Thursday saying "We want to inform you that one of our school buses was involved in an accident earlier today returning from FBLA national contests. We are relieved to report that all students and staff members on the bus have been accounted for and are safe. We would like to thank our staff members for their very swift response and attention to our students during this time. We are working closely with local authorities and will provide more information as it becomes available. Thank you for your understanding and patience." MSHP is continuing to investigate the incident.
