(WFRV) - WalletHub recently compiled a list of the U.S. states with the best and worst economies, and Wisconsinites might not be happy with their ranking.
Among the 50 states and the District of Columbia, Wisconsin came in at No. 40 out of 51 for its overall economy.

The rankings (Wisconsin in bold) were based on several factors:
Economic Activity 51 (last)
Economic Health 31
Innovation Potential 21
These factors were calculated with multiple numbers in mind. The economic activity ranking was weighted heavily by a state's change in gross domestic product (GDP) and share of fast-growing firms, with a few other factors like startup activity and exports per capita.
Economic health was calculated with 14 different factors, namely the unemployment rate and median annual household income adjusted for the cost of living.

Lastly, the innovation potential was calculated by taking six numbers into account, including but not limited to a state's share of jobs in high-tech industries and science, technology, engineering and mathematics employment.
Wisconsin also had the second-lowest change in GDP, just ahead of Delaware, as well as the second-least startup activity, with West Virginia right behind.
