Key Biscayne hosted its 65th annual Fourth of July Parade on Thursday morning. The parade will proceed south on Crandon Boulevard from Harbor Drive to West Enid Drive from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.Attendees will also be able to witness a fireworks display over the water at sunset.“The parade began in 1959 when a couple of local Key Biscayners decided they wanted to teach their children the importance of being an American. They called on their friends and neighbors to celebrate the 4th of July by parading through the island streets. As the years progressed, the parade organization grew,” according to the Key Biscayne Community Foundation website. The parade, which was organized by 20-25 Key Biscayne residents, is renowned for being “the Best Lil’ Hometown Parade in South Florida!” according to event organizers. Attendees shouldn’t be bothered by the weather during the celebration as drier air is continuing to push into South Florida on Thursday, lowering rain chances. But this means a lot more sun, and therefore, higher temperatures.Expect mostly dry conditions all day with the exception of a few isolated showers for the morning hours until noon. The sea breeze will push inland very early in the day, taking the shower chance with it, according to Local 10 meteorologist Jordan Patrick. Event organizers are also urging the public to stay hydrated and have fun celebrating America’s Independence Day!Local 10 viewers can watch the parade in the video below.
