LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – Happy 4th of July! We are tracking some rain and storm chances as we head into your late morning and afternoon hours today. It won’t be a complete washout today, but have the rain gear handy. The best chance to see rain will be during your late morning and afternoon hours. It’s also going to feel very muggy outside through the day. Intermittent heavy downpours will be possible with any of the storms that go up due to all of that heat and moisture. There is also a severe risk out for all of central and eastern Kentucky. The Storm Prediction Center has added a Level 2 Severe Risk along and north of I-64 and the Bluegrass Parkway. A Level 1 Severe Risk remains in place for the rest of the area. The main severe weather threat will be isolated damaging wind gusts. There is also a quick spin-up tornado threat. It’s again on the lower end, but there could be some rotation that may spark a few warnings. Make sure you are staying Weather Aware throughout the day! Good news is that rain chances will be dropping as we head into the evening hours. There should be a dry window to get the fireworks displays in. We are keeping a low rain chance up just in case there are some lingering storms, but it won’t be widespread. Most locations are good to go! The muggy conditions will continue overnight into early Friday morning. Overnight lows will once again struggle to even drop out of the low 70s in many areas. There is the chance of lingering showers and storms overnight as well, fueled by the overnight heat and humidity. One final round of storms on the way Friday ahead of a really nice weekend. Areas east of I-75 have a Level 1 Severe Risk due to isolated damaging wind gusts. Storms will fire up during the midday and afternoon hours ahead of a cold front. These storms will be moving eastward, so areas west of Lexington may not see much rain later in the day at all. Storms will exit Friday night as the cold front passes. This cold front will usher in some really nice weather for the rest of the weekend. Saturday and Sunday look fantastic across the region. Temperatures in the mid-80s on Saturday, then climbing right around average into the mid-to-upper 80s on Sunday. We will be dry as well so no concern for any outdoor plans. Wear the sunscreen and stay hydrated as you celebrate over the extended holiday weekend! Stay with the ABC 36 Storm Team for more updates.  ABC 36 HOUR FORECAST FOURTH OF JULY: Scattered afternoon and early evening storms. A few strong-to-severe storms. Highs in the upper 80s.
