North Carolina toddler overdoses, saved by Narcan; mother charged

IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A Statesville mother has been arrested after her 2-year-old son overdosed and was administered Narcan at the hospital, authorities said.
According to the Iredell County Sheriff's Office, the toddler was brought to the emergency room on Monday, July 1, by his mother, Brittany Dawn Riley, after she found him unresponsive.

Hospital staff determined the boy was overdosing and administered Narcan. The 2-year-old's condition was stabilized and he was transported to Brenner Children's Hospital in Winston-Salem for further observation, where he is expected to make a full recovery.
Riley admitted to investigators that she had been using fentanyl and methamphetamine at her home earlier that day. She was taken into custody and charged with felony child abuse.
Riley is being held on a $100,000 secured bond. The Department of Social Services was notified and will be investigating the situation further, the sheriff's office said.
