FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) — Cindy's Diner has deep roots in Fort Wayne -- calling the Summit City home since 1954 -- but unlike most things with roots, that hasn't stopped Cindy's from changing locations. Cindy's Diner on the move in 2014 Cindy's Diner on the move in 2014 Cindy's Diner on the move in 2014 "When they first started moving us, people definitely wanted to make sure that the city kept us downtown," said Angela Rowedda, owner of Cindy's. The diner has done a bit of a tour around downtown Fort Wayne, starting on the northwest corner of Jefferson Boulevard and Clinton Street. The building moved several times before its last move in 2014 from Harrison and Wayne streets to the corner of West Berry Street and Maiden Lane. "It closed on May 28 (2014) to be moved, and then on May 30, they picked it off and physically moved it here. And then between May 30 And July 3, you just had a bunch of guys you know redoing heating and air and putting in floors," Rowedda said about its last relocation in 2014. Cindy's Diner loaded up to move in 2014 The move made room for the Ash Skyline Plaza, but despite the big development that has come to define downtown Fort Wayne, the small 15-seat diner has not been left behind. "I'm not sure what downtown would look like without Cindy's," Rowedda said. "Business is great, business is good here." WANE 15 was at the grand reopening on July 5, 2014, for a packed house eager to have one of Cindy's famous garbage plates.
