WICHITA, Kan (KSNW) - The "Small Expressions" exhibit is the most recent addition to the Wichita-Sedgwick County Historical Museum. Its contemporary pieces feature diverse artistic techniques that elevate the local museum. Members of Handweavers Guild of America (HGA) constructed the exhibition within two years. HGA specializes in instructing and inspiring those in the fiber art community. Each art piece is concisely assembled by weaving, basket making, interlacing, felting, and other mixed media. Behind each exhibition that HGA puts forth, there is a competitive juried selection process. Artists showcasing their pieces come from across the world. Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center offering veterans relief from heat Jami Tracy, Curator of Collections at the museum, explains the diverse talent pool. "Two are local; one is actually from Wichita. One is from Newton; the others are from around the country; there's even an artist that is from France," Tracy said. Unlike any other exhibit, the small-scale masterpieces do not exceed 15 inches in any direction. "Small Expressions" is located on the second out of the fourth floor of the museum. In addition to the exhibit, an "Unbe-weave-able" event takes place July 6 from 1 to 4 p.m. Take a tour with an expert in the weaving field to learn more about the craft. Tools will be provided to the public to make personal baskets! The event is $5 for general admission. To learn more about the exhibit, visit the Wichita-Sedgwick County Historical Museum's website.
