MANHATTAN (KSNT) - CiCo Park in the Little Apple is getting a sports-filled makeover. On Tuesday, July 2, Manhattan city commissioners voted 4-1 to move forward in the next phase to renovate the park's sports complexes. This includes sidewalks, trails and parking lots. The project will include reconstructing the park's four baseball/softball fields and add eight new tennis courts. The city will also add overhead protective netting and a rooftop viewing deck and an extended team warm-up area, according to the proposed plan. The base project will cost about $15.7 million, with $1.2 million on construction and owner contingency funds. The city of Manhattan announced on a social media back post in April, the facilities will mainly be used for recreational leagues, competitive tournaments and the Manhattan High School athletic teams. According to the proposed plan, construction is expected to start in December, 2024 and be complete by August, 2026. For more local news, click here.
