HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) - The city of Holyoke also got into the 4th of July spirit with America's favorite pastime - baseball! Large crowds gathered at the Valley Blue Sox game, eager to enjoy the sport as part of the holiday celebrations. The stands at Mackenzie Stadium were filled with red, white and blue. The Holyoke-based collegiate summer baseball team went against the Mystic Schooners, hoping for another win.Despite a tough season on the road with a record of 3-7, the team has a strong 6-3 record at home. "It's always exciting to be out here. Anyways, whatever the day is," said Kerin Lauria of Connecticut. "But yeah, looking forward to spending the holiday tomorrow and just this kind of kicks it off." The Valley Blue Sox next home game will be this Saturday where they play against the Sanford Mainers.
