SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – Throughout the day Thursday, we are tracking a much drier day, however, temperatures will be noticeably higher throughout the afternoon. A stray shower is possible later in the afternoon but most of us will stay dry. Let's break it down. Thursday morning, temperatures will start in the middle and upper 70s for the coastline while inland areas west of I-95 will be a degree or two cooler. Surface high pressure will take control of our weather pattern meaning conditions will stay mainly dry through Thursday as temperatures return to the upper 80s by around 11 a.m. Besides some cloud cover, if you plan on setting up for that afternoon barbeque or taking a trip to the beach during the morning, we are looking good and most importantly, rain-free. For those who are traveling to the beach, just be aware that there will be a moderate risk of rip currents, so make sure you swim near lifeguards in designated swimming zones. High temperatures will be in the low to middle 90s for most of the region except the coastline which will be in the upper 80s. East winds in the morning will switch to the southeast later in the day, allowing the coast to stay a bit cooler. Winds will be a little stronger at the beach with gusts upwards of 15 mph. As for how it will feel outside, make sure to pack lots of water for any outdoor plans as heat index values return to the triple digits throughout the afternoon. If you are looking for a spot to set up an outdoor barbeque, the shade may be a good idea. Where to watch fireworks for July 4th A trough of low pressure will set up for interior sections of the state which will allow for a few stray showers to form along it. Any shower that does form will not be around for a while, and rain chances will drop quickly after the sun goes down. Additionally, after the sun goes down, our winds will calm down. With that being said, any fireworks shows will be good to go across the region. Overall, a pretty nice July 4th is in store! Remember to stay hydrated throughout the day as temperatures heat up into the 90s with heat indices in the triple digits. A stray shower is possible for inland areas but any shower that forms will likely not last long and will likely dry up before the evening fireworks.
