Fourteen months after graduating from Saint Louis School, former Crusader Yosei Takahashi continues to chase his gridiron dreams, both collegiately and internationally. Takahashi, a wide receiver from the Saint Louis Class of 2023, moved from Osaka, Japan, to Oahu as a 7th grader in hopes of pursuing football at the next level. Those hopes have turned into reality as he enters his sophomore season at the University of San Diego (USD) in the FCS. In his freshman year, Takahashi made history as the first native of Japan to play in every game as a freshman in NCAA history. His performance included scoring a touchdown in the title game against Canada and contributing to a 41-20 victory over the United States, a game that went viral on social media. “I love the experience that I had. I got to play with great guys, like some old teammates that I used to play with in elementary school. It was a blessing for me to be able to play in the tournament and get a medal for my country,” Takahashi said. He added, “I just want to say thank you to everybody that has supported me. It's been a really, really great experience. It helped me to be a better person in everything, not just sports. Hawaii really helped me out. I grew up there from a young age. So really, they taught me everything. Myself is like, made from Hawaii almost because I spent a lot of my young age there. So, yeah, I just appreciate everybody that supported me.” Takahashi, who scored four touchdowns as a senior at Saint Louis and averaged 19 yards per attempt as a kick returner at USD, will kick off his sophomore campaign on August 31st against Cal Poly.
