Orchard Fire burns over 700 acres in Tehachapi, evacuation warning in effect

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- Evacuation warning remains in place Wednesday night due to a wildfire that has burned approximately 700 acres in Tehachapi, the Kern County Fire Department said.
Firefighters were called to the fire near Tehachapi Willow Springs and Highline roads at around 2:15 p.m. The fire is called the Orchard Fire.

Officials issued the evacuation order but has been downgraded to a warning for the KRN-145, KRN-146 and KRN-165 zones, a Genasys Project map showed. The areas are south of Highway 58 and Highline Road. You can view a map of the evacuation order area here.
Multiple ground and air firefighting crews have been called to the fight the flames.
CHP in Mojave said Tehachapi Willow Springs Road is closed at Oak Creek and Tehachapi Boulevard. Highline Road is closed from Tehachapi Willow Springs to Steuber roads.
The Red Cross has opened an evacuation center for residents affected by the fire at the Tehachapi Education Center at 126 S. Snyder Ave. in Tehachapi. The Red Cross said everyone is welcome including small pets.
