FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - A $1.6M splash pad was unveiled in the City of Fresno on Wednesday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The new splash pad is at Fink-White Park at 535 S. Trinity Street in Fresno. Clovis’ Friday Night Farmers Market canceled due to extreme heat City officials say the splash pad will give local children a fun option for keeping cool during Fresno's heatwave. Mayor Jerry Dyer was at the ribbon-cutting ceremony along with Councilmember Miguel Arias. Dyer says Wednesday was the perfect day to open the new splash pad at Fink-White. "It's going to get hotter this summer and with that, we're going to have more and more kids as well as adults take advantage of this splash pad," said Dyer. "This is the ninth splash pad that we will have opened." The new splash pad has a large water ring, water blaster, sea creatures - and a themed dump bucket, which Dyer described as his favorite. "This splash pad is very important to the kids who live in and around this neighborhood. One of the reasons is the closest splash pad is a mile away and quite frankly too far for our kids to walk it," Dyer said. Dyer described it as the first splash pad west of Highway 99 and South of Highway 180. Construction costs for the splash pad were $1.6 million. "Yes, $1.6 million is a lot for a splash park, but it's well deserved, well earned. The neighbors deserve the same quality of splash parks that we would have in north Fresno," Councilmember Arias said.
