It’s Fourth of July weekend, and Salem is in for a heat-filled celebration of American independence. Along with fireworks, you can learn to care for berry bushes or catch several music shows. Here’s the lineup of Salem events for the week from Thursday, July 4, to Wednesday, July 10. Celebrate Independence Day Salem’s Fourth of July Spectacular runs from 3-11 p.m. Thursday at the Oregon State Fairgrounds, 2330 17th Street N.E. The night ends with a free fireworks show starting at 10 p.m. Other events include a ticketed demolition derby at 7:30 p.m., a VIP party zone with music performances and a fun zone with activities including face painting, a bounce house and lawn games. Parking is $10 per car. Tickets for the individual events, which range from $7 to $37, can be purchased online, and it is recommended to bring blankets for the fireworks show.  See our roundup below for other regional Fourth of July events. How to celebrate Fourth of July in Salem Live music, comedy, improv and local performances Infinity Room, 210 Liberty St SE #150 July 5: Wire Monkey Mama, The Doug Fury’s and Ace Stardust will play at Infinity Room. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. for an 8 p.m. show, which will be 21+ after 10 p.m. Tickets are $12 in advance or $15 at the door. July 6: This month’s “Slay ‘Em” local comedy showcase will celebrate the comedian Crash’s 21st birthday. Doors 6:30 p.m., show at 7:30 p.m. All-ages but not clean. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. The Grand Theatre, 191 High St. N.E. July 6, 7: RiverCity Rock Star Academy hosts its end-of-season shows. Saturday’s show runs 12-4 p.m., and Sunday’s is 3-6:45 p.m. Tickets $10, seating is general admission. Get Saturday tickets here and Sunday here. Other venues July 6: Honky Tonk Bar & Grill hosts a Red, White & Blue Party, kicking off with a hot dog eating contest at 5:30 p.m. and lemonade drinking contest at 6 p.m. Live music from Muddy Creek begins at 8 p.m. The bar is at 2275 McGilchrist St S.E. Live theater and cinema July 7: “Where Olive Trees Weep,” a documentary showing the resilience of Palestinian people, will show at Salem Cinema at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 in advance or $20 the day of the event, and benefit the Oregon Food Bank & Marion Polk Food Share.  July 10: A special screening of “Meet Me in the Bathroom,” a documentary exploring the New York music scene in the early 2000s, shows at Salem Cinema. The film starts at 7 p.m. and tickets are $11. Classes, workshops and lectures *July 6: Learn the basics of berry care and selection in a Marion County Master Gardeners workshop from 9-11 a.m. The event is held at the organization’s demonstration garden in Salem. Free, but advance registration required. *July 9: Kids can participate in the OMSI Science Exploration Pit Crew event where they get the opportunity to learn about science and engineering by building their own cars at the Salem Public Library. Space is limited and registration is required. Two sessions, 1-2 p.m. and 2:30-3:30 p.m. Free. Markets and shopping *July 6: Blast Off Vintage hosts its Underground Market, 860 High St. N.E., from 3-7 p.m. The market offers local handmade goods and services like tarot readings and massage. Every Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. is the Salem Public Market at 1240 Rural Avenue S.E. Salem Community Markets will bring local produce, food and products to various places throughout the city all week. The Wednesday Chemeketa Market runs from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Chemeketa Community College Agricultural Hub at 4000 Lancaster Drive N.E.  The Thursday West Salem Farmers Market runs from 10:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. at 1260 Edgewater St. N.W. The Saturday Market is 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at 865 Marion St. N.E. The Monday Hospital Market will be 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. on Salem Hospital’s campus, 875 Oak St., between building A & C.
