SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The Memorial Bridge will be closed Wednesday night into Thursday to prepare for the Star Spangled Springfield 4th of July event. Starting July 3rd at 11 p.m. the Memorial Bridge will close to all traffic. On July 4th Exits 5A and 5B on I-91 South and Exit 5 on I-91 North will close around 7 p.m. Streets in the area of Memorial Bridge will also be closed starting around 7:30 pm. From 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Thursday, Riverfront Park will be open to the public to celebrate America’s Birthday with the largest fireworks celebration in western Massachusetts. Some of the entertainment this year includes face painters, balloon artists, a national anthem performance, and a special guest from the USS Massachusetts nuclear attack submarine.  Memorial Bridge will re-open around 11 p.m. on the night of July 4th.
