HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (WSAV) - Hilton Head Island hotels are 90% full this Fourth of July weekend. That means lots of people coming to enjoy the beach and lots of people who need a place to park. The lots at Coligny Beach and various other beaches and parks on the Island will be packed all weekend long. Hilton Head Island is reminding folks to park only in designated spaces in all public parking lots. Free shuttle service to Hilton Head’s Shelter Cove Harbour & Marina July 4th celebration This holiday weekend, there will be parking officers out to tell folks when lots are full and where they can go to park. Town officials say there are multiple lots available near all the island beaches. So, before you decide to try and put a car in the grass or on pine straw, you may want to think twice or pay the price. "We do have tow trucks on call," said Hilton Head Island Public Safety Director Bob Bromage. "The last thing we want to do is tell somebody. But if we have to, we will stay out of the fireway and stay out of the landscape and you should be fine." If you do park illegally and are towed, you will have to pay $200 or more to get your car back. Town officials remind you there is additional parking for Coligny Beach at the University of South Carolina Beaufort campus and a free shuttle service for you and your beach gear.
