APPLETON, Wis. (WFRV) - Ahead of another busy travel season across the nation and northeast Wisconsin, TSA and airport officials at the Appleton International Airport are discussing tips for travelers. "I want travelers just to get into that mindset that if you're traveling this weekend, anytime up until Labor Day, we're going to see higher travel volumes," stated TSA Regional Spokesperson Jessica Mayle. She asked that travelers give themselves plenty of time, arriving at least two hours early, keep an eye on boarding times, and pack smart. Kaukauna opens part of its $6M aquatic center, giving residents a way to stay cool "It is concentrated when everyone's trying to get out on the same flight," said Mayle. "So, anything you can do as a passenger to minimize those delays, to make sure you're not introducing anything that could slow you down, slow other people behind you down, we appreciate that." The TSA spokesperson also reminded passengers about the importance of acquiring a REAL ID-compliant driver`s license before the nationwide May 7, 2025, REAL ID deadline. "If you are looking at when are you renewing your ID this year, you have to make an appointment through the DMV," Mayle explained. "This is all through the state of Wisconsin, you don't get your real ID through TSA, it's the same way you would renew your driver's license. If you want to check your ID, it's the one that has the gold star in the corner." The Appleton International Airport Director also commented on the increase in travel numbers, saying a lot of it has to do with the additional flights. Oshkosh Pilot Neil Hansen flew for Air America "We're looking at anywhere from a 12 to 10 percent increase over last year with some new flight additions," explained Abe Weber. "We've had American Airlines come in with new non-stop service to Dallas, and Fort Worth, and we've had American add year-round service to Charlotte, so those are big additions to Appleton airport." He also stressed the value of using the airline apps to communicate directly in case of changes, delays, or any questions regarding your flight information. If you are traveling but are not sure what items can or can not be packed in your checked bag or carry-on, TSA offers a full checklist on its official website.
